Sedation Dentistry Eases Fears for All Ages

Research shows that approximately 15 percent of Americans avoid the dentist because of dental anxiety or phobia, and some experts believe the number is actually much higher. For those who still go despite their anxiety, it can be a challenging experience that is dreaded for days and even weeks beforehand.

It can be difficult to get in the dental chair and give up control, and doing so makes many people extremely uncomfortable and anxious. But it doesn’t have to be this way, thanks to Dr. Norman’s training and licensing in sedation dentistry.

Sedation dentistry is an especially useful tool for children. Many adult patients trace their anxiety or fears around going to the dentist back to their childhood. If sedation dentistry had been an option for them in childhood, they likely would not have the fears they do today when it comes to seeing the dentist.

Not only does sedation dentistry help children feel more comfortable during their procedure, but it also helps them develop more positive associations with the dental office. Sedation dentistry can help them relax and see that they have nothing to fear.

With today’s technology, sedation dentistry is affordable and completely transforms the entire experience of going to the dentist. Even Dr. Norman is a fan of sedation dentistry and often utilizes it during her own dental procedures.

Sedation dentistry is available in several levels depending on the severity of the patient's anxiety, fear or phobia. Some patients just need something to help them take the edge off and relax, while other patients may need to be put to sleep in order to receive dental care. Dr. Norman understands each patient is unique in their experiences and works hard to tailor an individual plan that leaves every patient feeling good about their visit to her office.
