Dental implants restore appearance and function.

As one of Dr. Norman’s dental assistants, Kerry has seen lives transformed by Dr. Norman’s restorative and cosmetic treatments. In the case of missing teeth, many people choose dental implants.

Dental implants make it possible for Dr. Norman to create healthy, attractive smiles in an innovative way. Implants can replace one or more missing teeth and are another alternative to conventional bridges and dentures. Dental implants act and look like natural teeth. And, because they maintain bone mass, dental implants can help prevent additional tooth loss and the sunken facial appearance associated with missing teeth. “A lot of people don’t realize that missing teeth can lead to atrophy in their jaw. It’s a great reason to get a dental implant if you lose a tooth,” Kerry said.

Each dental implant is composed of a bio-compatible titanium screw and post topped by a crown, bridge or denture. These posts are surgically placed into the jawbone to it replace the natural tooth root. In a few months, the implant securely attaches to the bone, allowing it to withstand biting and chewing forces just like a healthy, natural tooth. The most common reasons for implant therapy include replacement of one or more teeth, support of a non-removable “bridge” to replace multiple teeth, or support of a removable full or partial denture. Once the implant has been completely integrated with the bone, (usually 3-6 months), a post is attached to the implant. Then, Dr. Norman can apply her cosmetic dentistry skills to create the permanent tooth replacement. The result can be a stronger, cosmetically enhanced smile.
