Teeth Changing Color?

So your super-bright teeth have gone from white to not so white over time? The good news is professional teeth whitening is here to rescue you! But what exactly happened and why did this change of color occur? Well, a lot of things might have caused it, from eating and drinking things like coffee and tea, among other staining items, to smoking, trauma, medications, and even the natural process of aging. Teeth staining actually falls into two categories: intrinsic and extrinsic stains.

Intrinsic Stains

Compared to extrinsic stains, these are more challenging to prevent and remove. These types of stains can result from prolonged exposure to minerals such as fluoride. Trauma and aging can also play a role. Although new technologies in teeth whitening have proven really helpful in combating these stains, they are far more challenging and often take significantly longer to get the desired results.

Extrinsic Stains

Extrinsic stains generally appear on the outer part of the teeth. They can result from prolonged exposure to coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco and other staining products. While regular brushing can help prevent these stains, extrinsic stains can be easily cleaned with professional teeth whitening. Lack of care, on the other hand, can make these stains penetrate the dentin, making it a lot more challenging to clean, even with professional teeth whitening.
